Thabang’s learning to live again, because you eased his pain, with kindness and a long white cane
Change can arrive in an instant. And it can happen to anyone.
For 47-year-old Thabang Nolonolo, it came the morning he woke up in hospital during Covid-19 lock down, only to discover he was blind in his right eye.
He eventually lost sight in both eyes and tasks that were once simple – like making hot tea for his wife – became dangerous. At home, relatives withdrew, and at work, colleagues mocked him for small mistakes, like bumping into closed doors.
The humiliation was painful . . . until friends like you stepped forward offering wonderful gifts!
That’s why we’re asking you to click here send your urgent gift to support our White Cane Week campaign.
Your generosity will ensure that more blind men, women and children have the assistive devices they need to thrive!
Thanks to donors like you, and the
unconditional love of his wife and two
sons, Thabang is learning how to live again.
Working as a senior administration official at a Free State school, Thabang enrolled at Optima College to study computer skills, braille, and practical skills for independent living.
Assistive devices – such as braille books, white canes, screen readers and household tools – add richness and colour to his life.
He’s now moving around freely and taking on small responsibilities, like ironing his son’s school uniform!
For someone without sight, each task is an act of great courage and determination!
“It helps me feel useful again. It reminds me that life still has meaning,” he says.
Your gift, sent today by clicking here, will help more blind South Africans overcome enormous hurdles.
And instead of allowing blindness to limit his world, Thabang’s using his experience to expand his world. He wants to advocate for the rights of blind and partially sighted people.
“The loss of my sight changed my life, but it also opened my mind,” he says.
Your gift made online here today will guide more persons as they take their first brave steps toward confidence and independence.
Together, we can ensure that when life suddenly turns dark, assistive devices are there to light the way!
So, can we count on you to send your gift today and be the answer to someone’s prayer? Every donation helps someone see again – and live again!
